Coffee Training Practice : Basic Barista Tools

What makes a professional barista? Coffee training school maybe?

If you’re looking to become a professional barista, there are some basic tools you’ll need in your arsenal. In this blog post, we will discuss the essential items that every barista should have. From coffee grinders to milk pitchers, we will cover it all! So, whether you’re just starting or you’re looking for an upgrade, read on for the must-have tools of a professional barista!

Who is a barista?

A barista is a professional who makes and serves coffee drinks. They are experts in coffee preparation and have a deep knowledge of different brewing methods. A good barista is also skilled in latte art and can create beautiful designs in your coffee. Such skills can be acquired at Nairobi bar School. The institution offers coffee training courses conducted by professionals in the industry.

What are the essential tools for a barista?

Barista tools vary depending on the type of coffee drinks you want to prepare. However, there are some basics that every barista should have. These include:

1. Espresso machine – this is the most important tool for any barista, and there are a variety of machines to choose from depending on your needs.

An espresso machine is used to make espresso, which is a type of coffee made by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. The espresso machine is what gives espresso its signature crema, or foam layer on top.

2. Burr grinder – a good burr grinder is essential for grinding coffee beans correctly. It’s important to grind your beans just before brewing for the best flavor.

There are two types of coffee grinders: blade and burr. Blade grinders are less expensive but produce uneven grinds, while burr grinders are more expensive but produce a consistent, uniform grind.

3. Tamper – This tool is used to tamp down coffee grounds in the portafilter. The portafilter is a metal filter that holds the coffee grounds and sits inside the espresso machine.

Tamping is an important step in making espresso because it helps extract the coffee evenly. If the coffee is not tamped down correctly, it can result in an uneven extraction and a poor-tasting espresso.

4. Scale – a scale is necessary for measuring coffee grounds and water accurately. Accurate measurements are crucial for making a great cup of coffee.

5. Thermometer – a thermometer helps you achieve the perfect temperature for brewing espresso and steaming milk. The ideal temperature for brewing espresso is around 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and the ideal temperature for steaming milk is around 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Pitcher – a pitcher is used for steaming milk. When steaming milk, it’s important to hold the pitcher at an angle so that the steam wand is only in contact

What are the different types of espresso machines?

Espresso machines come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and price ranges. The type of machine you choose will depend on your specific needs. For example, if you’re looking for a machine that is compact and easy to use, then a semi-automatic machine might be a good option. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a machine that is more versatile and allows for more control over the brewing process, then a manual espresso machine might be a better choice.
